The Water Jet Cutter is capable of cutting a wide variety of materials using an extremely high-pressure combination of water and garnet abrasive.

About.
The DMaF Lab houses a ProtoMAX Water Jet Cutting machine. It cuts through most sheet materials, varying from thin metal to glass or stone using a high-pressure jet of water mixed with sharp mineral particles.
How to Access.
The Water Jet is a Level 3 machine, requiring a machine specific induction. Book an induction or consultation on our Booking page. Please select the consultation if this is your first session.
File Requirements.
Prepare your file using vector linework, within the limits of the cutting area, 300 x 300mm. The ProtoMax software reads DXF files. If you upload your original Rhino file we can make any required adjustments and export to DXF during your session.
Materials.
The advantage of the Water Jet is that it can cut through extremely hard materials, up to 24mm thick, with a precision and detail that would be hard to fabricate otherwise. DMaF stocks pre-cut sheets of copper, brass, aluminum, mild steel and glass. See the current pricelist below. We also stock offcuts of tiles, stone and acrylic composites. You are welcome to bring in your own materials; please discuss this with our technical staff to confirm suitability.
Costs.
We charge $1 per minute of cutting time, plus material costs. Before we cut, the ProtoMAX software will provide an accurate cut time from your file.
